Dul Siar ar na Táblaí // Revision of Tables

photo 1Bhuel, creid nó ná creid é, níl na táblaí ar eolas ag cuid mhór de na páistí i mo Rang 6 – iolrú nó roinnt!!! Bhí mé ag labhairt le múinteoir eile agus tugadh an smaoineamh seo dom – bealach iad a chur ag foghlaim agus ag cleachtadh agus ag déanamh féinmheasúnú tríd bheith in iomaíocht leo féin lá i ndiadh lae. Seo mar a oibríonn sé :

  1. Sa bhosca seo tá pócaí beaga, ceann le haghaidh gach seit táblaí ó x0 go x12 agus ansin ó ÷1 go ÷12.
  2. Tosaíonn gach duine ag an tús.
  3. Gach maidin bíonn stopuaireadóir ar siúl ar feadh 2:00 nóiméad. Caithfidh siad an 20 táblaí a fháil déanta agus i gceart lastigh den dhá nóiméad. Má fhaigheann, bogann siad ar aghaidh go dtí an chéad seit eile amárach. Muna bhfaigheann, tá orthu an seit chéanna a dhéanamh arís amárach. Níl cead acu bogadh ar aghaidh go dtí seit nua go dtí gur féidir leo 20 táblaí a fháil i gceart lastigh de dhá nóiméad.

Well, believe it or not, lots of the children in my 6th class don’t know their tables – multiplication or division!!! I was speaking with another teacher and I was given this excellent idea – a way to get them learning and practicing their tables as well as self-assessing through being in competition with themselves one day after another. Here’s how it works:

  1. In the box are little pockets, one for each set of tables from x0 to x12 and then from ÷1 to ÷12.
  2. Everyone begins at the beginning.
  3. Every morning the stopwatch is set for 2 minutes. They have to get 20 tables done and correct within the two minutes. If they manage it, they move on to the next set tomorrow. If they don’t get them all finished or all correct, they have to do the same set again tomorrow. They’re not allowed to move on until they can get all 20 tables done correctly within the two minute timeframe.

Chomh maith le sin, tá cárta ag gach páiste gur féidir leo a úsáid chun taifead a choinneál ar a gcuid dul chun cinn féin.

Also, each child has there own record card in order that they can keep a record of their own progress.

Ar Aghaidh Leat! – Cluiche Measúnuithe // Ar Aghaidh Leat! – Assessment Game

Ar Aghaidh Leat - Cluiche Foghlama   Seo cluiche go mbeidh in úsáid agam go minic i rith na bliana chun measúnú a dhéanamh i ndiadh topaicí éagsúla – b’fhéidir topaicí san OSIE, i ndiadh pointí gramadaí a fhoghlaim nó fiú chun measúnú a dhéanamh ar thopaic sa mhata – aon rud ar bith. Bíonn tasc-chártaí ann – ar a laghad ceann do gach páiste, ach níos mó más maith leat. Bíonn 60 soicind acu le gach cárta agus iad ag bogadh timpeall gach uair go gcloiseann siad na focail ‘AR AGHAIDH LEAT!’ Bíonn bileog acu chun na freagraí a scríobh síos agus is bealach iontach é tabhairt faoin measúnú go tapaidh agus go cruinn. Sin ráite, bíonn cleachtadh de dhíth orthu ar an mbealach gur cheart dóibh an chluiche a imirt, cén bealach le bogadh timpeall ó chárta go cárta, is ar uile. Sa leagan foghlama seo is tascanna agus ceisteanna randamacha agus amaideacha atá san áireamh ionas go mbíonn siad ag dul i dtaithí ar an gcóras ach ag baint sult as ag an am céanna. Is gníomhaíocht deas é ag tús na bliana nua. Seo mo rang á imirt an tseachtain seo. Tá sé ar fáil ar TpT leis an nasc seo : https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Ar-Aghaidh-Leat-Cluiche-Foghlama-Ar-Aghaidh-Leat-Practice-Game-2073096

This is a game that I’ll be using often during the year to assess the children’s learning after various topics – maybe SESE topics, after learning particular points of grammar or even to assess maths topics after completion – anything really. It uses task cards – at least one per child but more than that if you want / need. They have 60 seconds with each card and they move to the next cards every time they hear the words, ‘AR AGHAIDH LEAT!’ They have answer sheet to write on and it’s a great way to assess both comprehensively and quickly. That said, they need practice in how to play the game, how best to move from one card to the next, etc. In this practice version, there are silly and random tasks on each card so that they learn and practice the system but that they enjoy it at the same time. It makes a great back to school activity. This is my gang playing it this week. The game is available in my TpT store at this link:  https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Ar-Aghaidh-Leat-Cluiche-Foghlama-Ar-Aghaidh-Leat-Practice-Game-2073096

#gaeilgetríghaeilge

Gaeilge trí Ghaeilge1

Tá mé ag súil go mór le seo a roinnt libh. Seo a fuair mé inné ón múinteoir atá ag tabhairt faoin tionscnamh – Gaeilge a mhúineadh trí mheán na Gaeilge. Sheol mé cúpla acmhainní chuici agus roinnt smaointe chomh maith. Is féidir libh an comhartha don doras a fheiceáil thuas – sin le crochadh le linn gach ceacht. Bhí toradh den scoth aici leis an gcéad ceacht lena rang – Rang 3/4 atá ann. Fair play di agus do na páistí! Tá súil agam go gcoiníonn sé ag dul chomh maith sin. An bhfuil aon duine eile agaibh ag déanamh iarrachta leis? Inis dúinn conas mar atá ag éirí leat!

I’m really looking forward to sharing this with you all. I received this message yesterday from the teacher who is taking part in our project this year – teaching Irish fully through the medium of Irish. I sent her a couple of resources and a couple of ideas. You can see the sign for the classroom door above – that’s hung on the door for every lesson. She had an amazing result with her class and their first lesson – she’s teaching 3rd and 4th class. Fair play to her and the children! I hope it continues like this. Are any more of you giving #gaeilgetrighaeilge a try? Let us know how you’re getting on.
