Mionionad ar Aibhneacha // Mini-unit on Rivers

Aibhneacha

Chun tús a chuir leis an mionionad seo (a rinne mé thar thar seactain scoile) theaspeáin mé dóibh léiriú powerpoint a thug seans dúinn na focail tábhachtach tíreolaíochta a phlé agus a fhoghlaim. Tá an léiriú powerpoint ar fáil i mo shiopa TpT agus tá nasc ag an mbun. I ndiadh iad a fhoghlaim, bhí ar na páistí lipéid a chur ar an mbileog seo.

To begin this mini-unit ( which I taught over the course of a school week) I showed them a powerpoint presentation which gave us the opportunity to discuss the important geographical terminolgy, and to learn what it means. The powerpoint presentation is available in my TpT store and there is a link below. After learning the terms, the children had to label the following this picture.

2015-05-14 11.28.34Sa dara cheacht, d’imir na páistí cluiche meaitseála, agus iad i mbeirteanna. Bhí orthu gach gné fisiceach den abhainn a mheaitseáil leis an míniú cuí. Tá na cártaí beaga ar fáil i mo shiopa TpT (nasc ag an mbun). Tá siad lánaithe agus gearrtha agam agus seit do gach beirt i málaí plaisteacha. Fuair na páistí go raibh an tasc dúshlánach go leor. Thóg sé roinnt ama orthu é a dhéanamh. Bhain siad sult as iad a cheartú nuair a chuala siad cé mhéad a bhí go mícheart acu. Seo cuid dóibh i mbun oibre.

In the second lesson, the children played a matching game, in twos. They had to match each river feature with the appropriate meaning or description. The cards are available in my TpT store (link below). I’ve laminated and cut them and have a set per pair in plastic bags. The children found this activity challenging. It took them a while to complete it. The really enjoyed it and were enthusiastic about correcting their work when they heard how many were wrong. Here are some of them working on this.

Sa cheacht deirneach, d’éist muid le píosa ceoil a scríobh Johann Strauss, darbh ainm ‘The Blue Danube’. Is féidir é a chloisteáil ag an nasc seo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CTYymbbEL4. I ndiadh sin, chuir mé ag tabhairt faoi thóraíocht taisce léarscáile. Bhain siad an sult as an gníomhaíocht seo agus bhí siad uilig an-ghníomhach le linn an cheachta seo. Bhí ceithre léarscáileanna difriúla acu agus bileog oibre le líonadh isteach – iad uilig bunaithe ar Abhainn na Danóibe. Seo iad ag tabhairt faoi.

In the final lesson, we listened to a piece of music written by Johann Strauss, called ‘The Blue Danube’. You can here it at this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CTYymbbEL4. After that, I had them undertake a map treasure hunt. They really enjoyed this activity and were all very engaged during this lesson. They had four different maps and a worksheet of questions to complete – all based on the River Danube. Here they are working on it.
